Understanding Economics (1999)

This program focuses on many of the recently revised national content standards in economics developed by the National Council of economics Education. Using examples relevant to students' own experiences, the video shows that economics involves choices based on scarce resources. The program relates economic decisions that students encounter in their own lives to economic decisions faced by families, businesses and different levels of government.   Includes teachers’ guides and correlations to Michigan Curriculum Standards.  Appropriate for grades: Gr. 3-5      Runtime: 25:00     

Economics: A Framework for Teaching the Basic Concepts: Fundamental Economic Concepts (1997)

Economics is the study of the use of limited resources to produce and distribute goods and services. This program, which may function as an introduction or as a review, examines the principles that are at the core of Economics.   Includes blackline masters, teachers’ guides, and correlations to Michigan Curriculum Standards.  Appropriate for grades 9-12.   Runtime: 29:16     

 

Economics: A Framework for Teaching the Basic Concepts: Macroeconomic Concepts (1997)

Macroeconomics is the study of the factors that influence, and result from, the large scale functions of economies, It is the way economists measure the behavior and functioning of economies.   Includes blackline masters, teachers’ guides, and correlations to Michigan Curriculum Standards.  Appropriate for grades 9-12.  Runtime: 29:22   

 

 

Economics: The Production, Distribution, and Consumption of Goods and Services: Needs and Wants (1996)

This program defines the three basic needs common to humanity: food and water, shelter, and clothing. This program examines how a market economy works to satisfy wants. Students learn that the principle of "opportunity cost" governs the use of resources to satisfy wants and needs.   Includes blackline master, teachers’ guides, and correlations to Michigan Curriculum Standards.  Appropriate for grades 3-5.  Runtime: 15:17
